The term "Shangri-La" has always been equated with immortality in pop culture. Disregarding the popular chain of hotels normally associated with it, Shangri-la for those who understand better is, in fact, that ultimate place which holds the legendary Fountain of Youth, enabling one to maintain his or her youthful beauty and appearance.

In reality, however, we have yet to come up with a technology that makes immortality possible. At present, the closest one can get to Shangri-La is through medical spas.

Many people are wondering about these medical spas. What are they exactly? And why, all of a sudden, they are spreading like wildfire?

A medical spa is a combination of a medical clinic and a day spa. It is operating with a medical license and is supervised and staffed by and with professional and medical doctors. It offers surgeries and procedures likes liposuction, abdominoplasty and botox. At the same time, it offers the usual day spa services like massages and body and facial treatments.

Before moving on, it is important to differentiate these spas from medical centers. Spas, as compared to medical centers, are much more tranquil and comforting in atmosphere. Also, you won't find the typical sterile odor of a hospital in a medical spa. Medical spas have a wide selection of wellness menu that can include relaxing services such as massage and relaxation treatments, not to mention other special services like hydration therapy and HGC consultation.

Medical spas can't be grouped as normal spas because they are operated by state-licensed doctors. Patients are assured that every procedure is done by a professional, be it a doctor or a surgeon, with the help of a team of medical nurses, nursing practitioners, estheticians or medical technicians.

For now, there are no national standards yet for the operation of these medical spas, but individual states can have regulations to be followed. This has resulted in a bit of a legal gray area on who is allowed to perform some of the procedures and what licenses are required to operate.

For example, any technician, even without formal medical training, easily perform laser and light treatments since some states have no regulations regarding the matter. In some other parts of the country, some medical spas have untrained technicians who perform everything from Botox to laser liposuction.

What seems worse is that the law is not really crystal clear as to which treatments can be done by a licensed doctor and those that can be done by a non-medical technician. Having said that, it is of great importance that the clients first do dome background check regarding the credibility and efficiency of the medical spa, the staff, the facilities and even the services.

Because of the lack of proper regulations and irregular monitoring, it's difficult to catch unlicensed technicians who illegally do these cosmetic procedures. There have been a lot of people pretending to be professionals in the field when they actually have no experience at all. Any patient who undergoes a procedure is therefore in great danger, especially when the technician commits a grave mistake while on the operating table. Lives are at stake here. This is one reason why it can be very dangerous.

Medical spas can indeed be a better option than the boring confines of a clinic or medical center. However, you need to make sure that you're going to the right spa with actual professionals. Your life and body is at stake. It is only necessary that you take the extra precautions needed.

Among the many popular procedures done in medical spas is thechin implant. Since this a very prominent feature of the face, it is doubly important that this cosmetic surgery be handled only by the best practitioners.
